Dr Anton Bungay
MA MB BChir PhD FRCP
About me
I worked as a physician in the United Kingdom for over twenty years, specializing in gastroenterology in major London teaching hospitals. During that time, I developed a deep understanding of how medical decisions are made, how complex information is communicated, and how challenging it can be for patients to absorb detail when the implications feel serious.
I was educated at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, where I completed both my MA and my medical degree (MB BChir), before undertaking doctoral research at University College London leading to my PhD. I later became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London, a senior professional distinction awarded in recognition of experience and contribution to clinical medicine.
Since relocating to New York City, my work has focused on providing independent, medically informed guidance outside the treating role. I work with individuals and families who want clear, experienced medical insight without the pressures, time constraints, or institutional agendas that can accompany clinical practice.
I have worked on both sides of the consultation and am aware of the gap that can exist between excellent medical care and patient understanding. My approach is calm, analytical, and grounded in respect for each client’s priorities and values.
I do not diagnose or treat. I help people interpret medical information, prepare for important conversations with their clinicians, and engage more confidently in decisions about their care.
What I Do
Medical information can feel confusing, fragmented, and emotionally demanding. My role is non-clinical and centered on providing clarity, structure, and steady support.
I can help you with:
understanding information from your clinicians
preparing for medical appointments
reviewing what was discussed after consultations
organising questions, priorities, and next steps
maintaining clarity during periods of ongoing care
supporting families who need to stay coordinated
I do not diagnose, treat, or make medical decisions. My work complements the care you receive by helping you feel more informed, prepared, and supported.
